Today I have heard a lot about some states in the United States wanting to secede from the United States. I am not sure some of these states know exactly what they would be getting into if this were to happen. So what is everyone's opinion on this?

I really do not know how to feel about this. However, I am not surprised at this at all. My state, Arizona, might be one of those states as well. I might have to move out depending on how that goes. This is actually the first I have heard of this.
It's never going to happen. I do find it tragically amusing. The northern most part of California has been wanting to break off from the rest of California for nearly 20 years, maybe more.
On a positive note that seems to have been overlooked in the news. Puerto Rico elected to become a state on Nov. 6th.
What they would be getting is a lot of grief! Seceding would be the most stupid thing any of these states could do. What are they going to do for federal funding? Recruit the Warren Buffets of the world to move there and adopt them? People are always complaining about the government and taking little responsibility for their own welfare or the results of their choices. It's ridiculous.
This is pure media newslines and a bunch of ridiculous hogwash. The president did not get my vote, but I would rather take responsibility and support the prosperity of my country than cause havoc, chaos and media-induced national recession. I am not a fan of the media-driven economic mini crisis's.

U.S. has remained a leading nation for the world in most matters of peace and development. It will be terrible for the world as a whole. Do you remember what happened when former U.S.S.R. dissolved, so many anarchist countries were born. But for u.s.s.r. the case was different since the different geographic and demographically countries were forcibly merged.
More small nations means more problem of law and order.

This stuff just makes me roll my eyes. People flip out after every election. They're going to secede from the US. They're going to move to Canada....
Nothing ever happens. They just get upset and try to go to the extreme.
Do you play with your food? I certainly do. Quirky Cookery
It would only work if the State that was leaving was willing to be VERY economically Libertarian, to the point where the new Government would pretty much pay for nothing. If that was the case it might end up being a very popular new country, after all, no tax!
I can feel for some of the states trying to sign petitions to secede...Tennessee, Georgia, North Carolina, Alabama, Florida, and Texas all have over 30,000 signatures thus far. Texas has 100,000+ signatures thus far...and why do I feel for them? Texas maintains a BALANCED budget (few states can say that) and also are the 15th largest economy in the world (not a bad start for a country or independent territory)...so why would they want the burden off a deficit-ridden federal government? The only city remaining exempt at this time is Austin (quite liberal and college-based city)...but Texas surely has the freedom of expression, even in regards to secession (although I HATE seeing these news headlines...believe me).

I am curious to know just how you came to that conclusion? Do you really and truly believe that? The ramifications of such an event would be catastrophic not only to the U.S. as a nation but it would effect and affect every free nation on the planet. The result in my humble opinion would be disastrous! It would only work if the State that was leaving was willing to be VERY economically Libertarian, to the point where the new Government would pretty much pay for nothing. If that was the case it might end up being a very popular new country, after all, no tax!
