I started Weight Watchers in January and lost 20 pounds in three months! Since April, though, I have maintained, but no additional pounds are coming off. Any suggestions for how to get my motivation back?
Losing twenty pounds in three months is excellent. Congraulations on what you accomplised so far! Are you doing any exercising? I am also trying to lose weight but mainly watching what I eat and not bringing junk food into the house. I workout at home. One thing I like to do is mix cardio and weights. The video that I watch changes the workout every day for the first 2 weeks, then I do a whole new set of workouts. The goal is to not give the body the same routine but keep changing to keep burning.
You have already done a great job. You just need to keep your work up. To stay motivated, you need to meditate. Believe me or not, meditation has many scientifically proved benefits. It will help you to stay motivated.
Congrats on the 20#. Also, congrats for maintaining through a time of difficulty. You could have gained it back, but you didn't. Try to keep your stress under control. If you have a lot of stress, it is very hard to do extra things like try to lose weight. Make sure you get some alone time to think about your goals and strategies, and reaffirm your commitment. You need this kind of time each and every day.
The best way to gain your motivation is to have a proper goal and follow it.
Also, instead of having the goal of losing another 20 pounds again, which would take a lot of motivation, you should have a smaller goal.
The next goal should be to only lose additional 5 pounds, but you need to curtail the timing accordingly as well, to ensure that you are able to achieve it in equivalent amount of time as well.
Wow, that's a huge achievement Kay!
I'd imagine the key question you've got to ask yourself is if you feel better the way you are now than when you started - with your body as it currently is, with your changed lifestyle, etc. If you do, then that's a positive you can take forward. I think the big step in your motivation will now need to be keeping your current routines as the 'new normal', rather than slipping back, and having to start from where you were a few years from now.
Great job, Kay! If you want to get your motivation back, you'll have to find a sustainable way to continue your diet and find satisfaction in your nutrition and balance in your exercise plan that includes plenty of rest. Let us know if you want food alternatives or workout routines...
Motivation can be illusive. When I am stressed, I have a terrible time staying motivated. My brain can only be spread so thin. And that makes it difficult because stress in life is inevitable at some times more than others. But it will definitely be there. I have not found the solution for it yet. All I know is that when life calms down, I can return to my weight loss focus. And I try to get a grip on life as much as I can so as to minimize these crazy stress times as much as possible.
That is fantastic Kay. One thing you might consider is having a weight loss buddy too. Social support can help you stay motivated. I am currently looking for a buddy for my weight loss efforts, someone to help me feel motivated. I lost 15 pounds dieting earlier this year, but I think at least 10 of it has crept back, I am getting ready to restart with WW, and I am looking for someone to help me stay focused,,and not lose my mojo!
Staying motivated is one of the hardest things when you don't see the results you want, and I have been there. I try not to be hard on myself and keep going, and stop myself being tempted and get disciplined. Having support helps, but also buying and preparing meals and not detracting from what was planned. I stopped the top up shops and things like that and stuck to what I had in the house that was on the list.
